ABOUT THE EVENT
Dissenters read by author Liz Hutchinson.
Dissenters: Conscience and Corruption in 17th Century Frome
Dissenters follows the lives of a group of Frome people, rich and poor, in the years 1666 to 1667, as they struggle to survive or to thrive against the backdrop of Restoration England. Their relationships intertwine, their prospects rise and fall, and around them society is shifting into a new era. The spirit of dissent is strong in the town: non-conformism in religion, corruption in the local justice system, and divergence from sexual orthodoxy.
